A story of ups and downs, the XJR-14 has a unique history in racing from a definitive era. Although a story with many successes, the car is strangely left in the shadows by the manufacturers that used it. Never 100% a Jaguar, nor a rotary-engined success for Mazda, nor an official Porsche Le Mans winner, it's an outsider.

We'd sent Kiwi super-snapper Greg Pajo to the workshop of historic Group C boss Bob Berridge to work his magic on one of the most striking racing cars ever created - the TWR Jaguar XJR-14 'atmo' car, still resplendent in its all-purple fag packet livery - and sure enough the results were… well, somewhat pleasing.

The Jaguar XJR-14 is the last evolution of the TWR Jaguar Group C, built toFIA « Category 1 » specifications. The regulation allowed a minimum weight of 750kg and the use of a 3,5 liter Formula 1 engine. Designed by Ross Brawn who affectiously nick named it the « The Fat F1 » it generates a downforce-to-drag ratio of 4,2 which is 0,2 points higher than the 2023 Hypercars.

The Jaguar XJR-14 was designed in response to the new European sportscar racing regulations that did away with the fuel allotment formula (Group C) in favor of a single engine specification. From 1991 onwards all cars in the Sportscar World Championship would have normally aspirated, 3.5 liter engines; the number of cylinders was free.
